Why no bot joins the call

Most meeting tools send a recording bot into the call. A little tile appears in the grid — "Notetaker is recording" — and sits there for the next hour. Sorinai never does this, and it was one of the first decisions we made. Here's why.

A bot changes the room

The moment people see a recorder join, the conversation changes. They choose their words more carefully, and the aside they might have said off the cuff, they keep to themselves. The meeting gets a little more performed and a little less honest.

You want the real version: what the client actually thinks, and the throwaway line that turns out to be the whole point. A bot sitting in the corner quietly discourages both.

Bots also just break

Recording bots only work where a guest can be invited. That covers Zoom, Meet and Teams, and nothing else. Take the conversation anywhere closer to real life and the bot is locked out:

• A quick WhatsApp or FaceTime call
• A conversation in Slack or Discord, because that's where the team already lives
• Someone sitting across the table from you
• Any other call on your computer, whatever app it's in

That's a lot of the work. A meeting-guest bot can't follow you to any of it.

Sorinai listens the way you do

Sorinai runs on your own computer, Mac or Windows, and listens to the same audio you're already hearing — through the machine in front of you rather than by joining the call. There's no participant to admit and no tile in the grid. Zoom, a phone call, two people at a table: it works the same on all of them, because to Sorinai they're all just sound.

The people you're meeting see a person across the table. Not a recorder in the corner.

You still tell people they're being recorded — that part is on you, the same as it always was. What changes is that the meeting feels like a meeting. Sorinai stays out of the room and works from your side of the table, so the conversation you get is the real one.
